NOTE: DM and QM candidates at this time must play the server for a minimum of three months in order to be considered for either position [the exception to this is if your candidacy is prior to server launch]. This is to ensure familiarity and understanding of the setting as TDN is heavily customized and altered, and consistency and accuracy is key to good DMing and QMing alike.

The Dragon's Neck is looking to add some enthusiastic, passionate and capable QMs & DMs to our team. Joining the team in this role grants you the ability to develop and execute on unique, artistic and world-shaping storylines that play out on TDN. We are looking for fair-minded story-tellers who can work alongside the rest of the QM/DM team.

All QMs and DMs will need to submit a sample event concept during the process of being considered for the position.

Differences between QM & DM

Dungeon Masters are expected to lead and execute on complex storylines and narrative elements. DMs should expect to spend a minimum of 10 hours/week supporting TDN.

Quest Masters are expected to provide 'in-the-moment' spice and RP additions for players. Although minor, single shot quests are acceptable, major events will be something a QM supports a DM on, rather than runs entirely on their own. This is an excellent position for individuals new to DMing in general. QMs should expect to spend a minimum of 5 hours/week supporting TDN. For a more exhaustive review of the role, please visit the following Link

Requirements:

-> You must be able to meet the minimum time-expectations for the role. (QM = 5 Hours/Week // DM = 10 Hours/Week)
-> Observing and enforcing the server rules is a must.
-> You must be in good standing with the server (No temporary server bans, or discord mutes in the past 6 months)
-> You must be capable of showcasing a high level of professionalism, and communicating in a manner that reflects the values of TDN. (Speaking respectfully, avoiding foul language when debating or coaching a player, etc).
-> Be capable of taking feedback when presented by the Admin or Narrative Lead.
-> Be active on Discord consistently. Any disappearances longer than a week without communication will result in being moved inactive.

Dungeon Master Trial Runs

Because we value the community and want to give players the best, most immersive and consistent roleplay experience, we would like to go the extra mile in ensuring that our Dungeon Masters achieve the level of quality we’re striving for in all things related to The Dragon’s Neck.
To that end, we have concepted a fun exercise we hope will allow ourselves and the players to evaluate potential DM candidates, so that we can determine whether those candidates will truly fit into the culture we wish to foster.

Overview
Once a person applies for a DM role, their application will be reviewed and a chat may be scheduled between themselves, Khaine and one other staff member. Once that is done, the DM candidate(s) will be given an outline for a one-shot event. Meanwhile, a handful of players will be selected in private to act as anonymous participants in the event. Both DM candidate and players will be anonymous to each other, to avoid any potential bad feelings, added pressure or favouritism.

The event that the DM candidate receives will be reasonably nuanced but with plenty of room for them to express themselves creatively. They will be allowed some time to get accustomed to the DM tools and the game world before scheduling the event. Khaine or a designated staff member will mediate between candidate and players to arrange a time that best suits everyone. The event is expected to last one and a half hours, with an outside / maximum length of two hours, however more details will be provided once the candidate is in a position to prepare for the event, i.e has had their initial application accepted.

Players will be given a document outlining what feedback we’d like them to give and what we’d like them to look for. We will also have logs of the event in case we’d like to review ourselves. If there are any disruptive issues during the event, we will allow for another event to be scheduled after a fix has been implemented in the case of a technical issue. Any other issues will be resolved as quickly as possible.

Assurances
While this process may sound a bit intimidating, the hope is that it will be an enjoyable experience and helpful for both the players and the DM candidates. If you are a candidate and you are not selected as a DM following the trial, don’t worry; we will offer you some gentle, constructive feedback on why you were not selected. Just because you were not selected does not necessarily mean we would not consider you again in future, providing you are willing to work with the feedback and spend some time as a player on the server to better get a feel for the culture and vibe to which we aspire.
