TDN Community,

The time has come for another update. We've got some tweaks to a previously-communicated process, along with some new details on current base-class changes:

Misc. Updates:
  • Take a look at our New WIKI and Fancy Region Map! (The Wiki remains an ongoing Work in Progress!)
    • Please report any issues with the Wiki as you come across them.
  • Application Process Update
    • TDN will be retiring the use of Applications for all Valid character concepts.
    • In lieu of an application that requires approval, players will agree to the roleplay requirements for the character (this will be handled before entering the game world). This agreement aides in understanding what is required of them, and the consequences for failing to roleplay the character accordingly.
    • Examples of consequences:
      • A divine class violating their deity's dogma losing their ability to cast spells.
      • Consequences for illegal actions such as jail, fines or banishment.
      • In extreme cases, execution (permadeath).
    • The goal is instead of requiring players to prove to DMs ahead of time they can play the character, they are instead agreeing to having an understanding of that character, and the setting. If a player wishes to play one of these characters it is important that they gain an understanding of the server rules and setting related to that character.
      • Many of these instances can be very grey, and therefore dungeon masters (within reason) will attempt to provide warnings to a player when possible.
    • Due to the removal of Applications, Underdark Races have been suspended from use.
      • Existing Underdark PCs may request a Rebuild into a New PC and have the XP, Prof XP, etc refunded. (Subject to limitations imposed by our Rebuild Guidelines explained in the July Dev Update).
    • Special Race Bonuses will be updated & changed in the near future.
  • Character Paths (Backgrounds)
    • Backgrounds are being overhauled and customized to fit the theme of the background more appropriately. Each background will be subject to bonuses/maluses as well as one special trait.
    • These Backgrounds will replace the previous Backgrounds TDN had in place.
    • Although the details of the bonuses/maluses are not yet available, the name of the Paths are:
      • Pariah
      • Disavowed
      • Struggler
      • Skulk
      • Earthen
      • Praised
      • Erudite
      • Esurient
      • Martial
      • Privileged
  • Character Creation Regions
    • Similar to Backgrounds/Paths, Regions will play a part in starting gear for characters. Including effecting starting gp values, starting gear, and initial language token.
  • Seafaring
    • TDN will have a seafaring component. That's all that we can share at this time.
  • ETAs/Timelines:
    • No timeline towards a Beta is available just yet. We are hopeful that the next month of development will position us in a good spot to announce a future Beta date by the end of September.
  • September Dev Update:
    • It's going to be nuts.

Base Class Updates:
Note: Links to base classes below are a complete overview of the class. These include changes from launch, as well as tweaks we have made since then. In some cases, the changes are extensive.

It is absolutely critical that everyone understand that class balancing will be a FLUID project. As we test internally, we will make tweaks. Even after launch, we expect to make changes as we monitor player experience and internal data around class strength.
