The Dragon's Neck Dev Update

Hey TDN -

This update will be a short one, however we wanted to give some details on where we're at and what's ahead:

  • TDN Stress Test "Battle Royale"!
    • Date/Time: August 20th, 2022 / 10am PDT.
    • Details:
      • Level cap during event: Level 11.
        • Players will have a command to level up to the cap.
        • Gear strength will be on the lower end of power for the range.
      • Players will engage in a PvPvE event that is focused on testing server performance and throwing as much at our server as possible in an effort to lag and crash the server.
      • Expect bumps and crashes!
      • We will leverage the data and information collect from this event to determine our final launch date.
    • Discord Event Link
  • How Is Development Going?
    • We're in crunch time! The team is using what precious free hours we have outside of our outside-of-TDN obligations to craft an overall great experience. There have been some great additions/fixes/improvements, along with the occasional bump in the road (for context: workload considerations related and unrelated to TDN, along with unexpected bug findings that require us to double-back on).
  • Are there any additional changes planned before launch?
    • Yes! If we spot problems, we are going to make changes. More details to come shortly after the stress test (by End of August).
      • As an aside, development/changes/balance will continue to happen even after launch. If you're here for a static (unchanging) experience, you will want to adjust your expectations. <insert Aschent's rant about building your PC to match a concept, rather than a concept to match a build, here.>.
    • We've recently updated our Death/PvP/Permadeath-Design: https://www.dragonsneck.com/wiki/PvP-Conflict, there are some additional tweaks we'll make to this doc as time progresses and will do our best to update the community as things ebb-and-flow.
  • What's the "Big Info" you mentioned?
    • You know that problem/challenge that tends to exist on RP servers where there are these wide gaps between mid-leveled players, and near-the-cap-level players? The issue that results in players being unable to participate in events, or adventure together, along with a myriad of other troublesome concerns? Some of you have voiced that same concern, and for a good while, we felt too far along to make a meaningful change to address this before launch. Well, we have a viable solution. We believe our proposed concept is going to be a massive boon to the community that simultaneously fixes the above-mentioned challenge(s), but also keeps the core of the playerbase within striking distance of one another AND continues to grow a character's kit. That's all I can share for now, however it is a big idea, and we're looking forward to the long-term positive impact it will have.
Until next time!
