The Dragon's Neck Dev Update

Happy New Years!!! It has been quite the 365 days for everyone and we continue to get closer to being in a position to unveil our launch timeline (yes, TDN IS launching in 2022). Today's update will be a bit lighter on content & announcements, however we've got some great music, screenshots and a few updates to share!

More TDN music courtesy of the Edelweiss Records:
  • New Class: Peasant [Permadeath Class]
    • Loading soon onto the Beta build, we will be introducing the Peasant (often known as the 'Commoner' class). This class comes with a few unique features however is designed to fill a niche role at launch being similar to an NPC in-game. Those who wish to spend their time gossiping or telling tales of the adventurers of the realm rather than risking their lives AS those adventurers might find this an enjoyable class to play.
    • Peasants are a permadeath class, meaning that once you die, you're dead.
    • Peasants will have a modified ability-score point-buy.
    • RPXP is the primary form of XP gained for this class, as the only feat a Peasant will earn is Simple Weapon Proficiency.
    • Peasants can only level into the Peasant class (see caveat below).
    • Benefits of the Peasant Class:
      • Increased RPXP.
      • Increased Profession Rates.
      • Increased Profession Drop Rates (where applicable).
      • Bonus Silver Payout for jobs in Murann & Trademeet. (Based on class level).
    • "Dreams of Adventuring": As a departure from traditional forms of the Commoner class, we will build in an opportunity for Peasants to pursue their dreams of adventuring should they so choose to do that. Until a full system is established, players will partner with a DM to rebuild into an adventurer (all XP would be lost for this PC and they would effectively be starting over in their careers). Choosing this path would forfeit all above benefits of the Peasant class (including removal of the harsher permadeath implications).
    • More to come!
  • Class Preview: Shaman
    • Our redesign for the Shaman class is underway and the class will be adjusted significantly from current state. Below are the three archetypes that the Shaman will be able to select from:
      • Animism - AoE Support focused.
      • Shamanism - AoEs that help allies and harm enemies. (mix of support & offensive)
      • Totemism - Controller & Offensive focused.
    • More details to come!
  • Stealth Overhaul (Special shout out to the folks at -Scars of Risenholm- for their willingness to share their system!)
    • When a character (the sneak) goes into stealth mode, every round they roll their stealth skill, and those around them (the spotters) roll their perception. This happens twice: once to determine if the sneak is seen (visual), and once to determine if they are heard (audible).

If a spotter's perception roll beats the sneak's stealth roll, the sneak is not immediately revealed. Instead, the spotter is put on alert for 2 rounds. The sneak will see the spotter's perception icon change from a closed eye to a half-open one, and an orange circle with a radius of 4m will appear around the alerted spotter. Only the sneak can see this circle.

If this circle appears while the sneak is within 4m of the spotter, then the sneak is given 1 round to get out of circle. Otherwise, the instant the circle intersects with the sneak, they are immediately revealed to the spotter.

If the spotter's perception roll beats the sneak's stealth roll while the spotter is already alert, not only does the spotter remain alert for another 2 rounds, but a white circle with a radius of 4m will appear around the sneak. This indicates something has subconsciously drawn the spotter's attention to the general area where the sneak is. If this sneak leaves this white circle, they are immediately revealed. Only the sneak can see this circle.

The sneak will see open eyes over the heads of spotter who have detected them, a half-open eye for spotters who are alert but haven't detected them, and a closed eye for spotters who have not detected them, and are not on alert.

If a spotter's perception rank is 20 more than the sneak's hide rank, then the sneak is detected immediately.
